I pulled my first all-nighter in a very long time this past week. I'm not going to count the hour and a half of sleep I did get from 12:30 until 2:00 a.m. because it didn't help at all. It was a bad night and a reminder that I'm getting older.
The reason for the all-nighter was vomiting older daughter. Not just once or twice, but every 20 minutes. From 2 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. That's over 5 hours. Do the math. It wasn't fun.
Younger daughter threw up right about the time her sister was slowing down her pace to once an hour. I put them both in our bed with a big silver bowl and told them not to bump heads if they both needed it at once. Then I went to get the mop. Again. I'm so thankful we tiled the whole house.
By mid-morning, I was a zombie. Dear husband calls from work to see how everyone is doing. I think I answered him. It's kind of a blur. But he brings home popsicles so everyone is happy.
Except middle daughter's tummy. Fifteen minutes after she eats it, I'm pulling the covers off of couch cushions and adding them to the mountain of laundry that has accumulated in the previous 24 hours.
Dear husband takes over and I go to sleep for a couple hours before middle daughter wakes me because her stomach still hurts and she can't sleep. We throw a big blanket on the naked couch cushions and camp out for the night. Thankfully, the she didn't throw up any more, just did alot of tossing and turning, so for the most part, I was able to sleep. As much as one can on a couch with a sick, restless 9 year old at one end.
So here I am, three days later, and I still feel like I'm in a fog even though dear husband has caught up most of the laundry and I got one full night of sleep last night as well as a long nap yesterday. I'm now convinced that at my age, all-nighters are extremely hazardous to my health. My recovery time this time was so long that I'm thinking if it ever happens again, I might never recover. And that would be bad.
I wonder if that's possible.
I'd rather not find out.
That knocks anyone for a loop, no matter their age!! Glad everyone is getting back to normal, including you!! Not fun!!
